Okay, so I am now officially in love with Blender. This is by no means a finished render, but the result of experimenting with PBR materials, scattering, mist passes, compositing and some more stuff. It is immensely amazing what this free (!) and open source (!) software is able to do, especially compared to costly so-called “professional” DCC packages with their customer-hostile subscription models (I am looking at you, Maxon!). I will definitely look further into this.
